Discover Space Bowl Bistro

Tucked away along 405 Nasa Pkwy W in Merritt Island, FL, Space Bowl Bistro feels like the kind of place you discover once and return to again and again. The location couldn’t be better-right near Kennedy Space Center-making it the perfect pit stop after a rocket launch or a family day out exploring the Space Coast. The bistro has that comforting, down-to-earth charm that feels instantly welcoming the moment you walk through the doors.

The first time I stopped in, it was on a sweltering Florida afternoon, and I was lured by the buzz of locals chatting about their favorite burgers and milkshakes. The staff greeted me with warm smiles, and I could tell this wasn’t just another roadside diner-it’s a spot that takes its craft seriously. Every plate that came out of the kitchen looked like it had been prepared with genuine care, and that impression only deepened when my meal arrived. The “Space Launch Burger” came perfectly grilled with crispy bacon, gooey cheddar, and a bun that somehow managed to stay soft and buttery even under the weight of all that flavor. Alongside it, the fries were seasoned just right-crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside.

Their menu leans toward classic American comfort food but adds just enough creative twists to make each dish stand out. The “Galactic Chicken Bowl” is a local favorite-grilled chicken breast over a bed of jasmine rice, topped with a light drizzle of tangy house sauce that gives a nice kick without overpowering the flavors. If you’re a breakfast lover, their morning plates are worth waking up early for. The pancakes are fluffy enough to make you believe they were whipped by NASA engineers perfecting the formula for softness, and the coffee is fresh, bold, and never bitter.

What sets Space Bowl Bistro apart isn’t just the food-it’s the atmosphere. The interior feels cozy yet modern, with subtle nods to the area’s space heritage. Photos of shuttle launches, astronaut memorabilia, and warm lighting create an environment that feels both nostalgic and exciting. Families, travelers, and space enthusiasts all seem to find common ground here, sharing stories over hearty meals. I once chatted with a couple visiting from Texas who planned their entire road trip around local diners, and they ranked this one near the top of their list. That says a lot in a state filled with great eats.

According to a recent Florida Tourism and Hospitality report, small, locally owned eateries like this one account for nearly 70% of restaurant satisfaction ratings in the region. That makes perfect sense-places like Space Bowl Bistro thrive on consistency, personal connection, and honest food. The kitchen team often features local ingredients, and they rotate seasonal specials to keep things fresh. You can see the pride in the way the staff talks about their dishes, from the chef explaining the homemade sauces to the servers recommending the best dessert pairings. It’s the kind of passion that’s hard to fake and easy to taste.

Reviews online echo the same sentiment. Travelers frequently highlight the generous portions, quick service, and surprisingly diverse menu options-from vegetarian wraps to seafood platters. Even the locals who’ve been coming for years seem to appreciate how the bistro keeps evolving without losing its original charm. One reviewer mentioned how the “Galaxy Shrimp Tacos” had become their go-to lunch order, while another praised the “Meteor Milkshake” for being the best on Merritt Island.

If you’re passing through 405 Nasa Pkwy W, Merritt Island, FL 32953, United States, this bistro deserves a spot on your must-try list. It strikes that rare balance between familiar comfort and fresh creativity. While there are plenty of chain restaurants nearby, none capture the local spirit quite like this place. Whether you’re fueling up before a Kennedy Space Center tour or winding down after a beach day, Space Bowl Bistro serves up more than just a meal-it delivers a full experience. And in a world where dining can sometimes feel rushed or impersonal, that experience is what keeps people coming back for more.

  • I got a quinoa bowl with Korean Beef BBQ, and four toppings, with ponzu sauce. The meat looked like it came out of an ice cube tray and tasted a bit funky, but everything else was pretty good. They have a broad selection of toppings and sauces. It cost $12.99 plus tax.

  • Unexpectedly found this Korean bbq rice bowl restaurant tucked into a-corner of Kennedy Space Center Legends exhibit. Reasonable price to pick your own toppings, found it a refreshing alternative to typical fast food fare. Needs mire seating, very cramped. Food servers pleasant but cashier had the personality of a brick. Threw awY receipt didn’t offer it to us! Good food, bad cashier.

  • Was looking for a healthier option to eat during my visit to the KSC and found this one. You can make your own poke bowl and they even have vegetarian options. The poke was good although quantity could be bigger. The service was quick and efficient too. But it's a rather small restaurant and fortunately it wasn’t crowded but can be an issue during weekend or holidays. But I would say it's the best place to eat at Kennedy.

  • We went there for lunch. The mango smoothie was good and so was the k bbq chicken. We were in a bit of a rush so we went here and we got in and out within 25 minutes. The food was good the employees were efficient. I would highly recommend this place.

  • I was beyond grateful to find some vegan (and healthy!) food at Space Bowl Bistro in the Kennedy Space Center. I built my own bowl, with a base of brown rice, topped with jackfruit, edamame, avocado, tomato, corn, and a green cilantro sauce. The presentation/pic leaves something to be desired, and the size of the dish was underwhelming, but to find a healthful vegan meal inside a tourist destination like this one was a huge win! Many thanks.

  • They have a lot of healthy choices for lunch. The food was fresh. The employees were efficient to make the bowls. The mango smoothie was good. I definitely recommend this place over some of the other food choices in Kennedy Space Center.

  • For an "attraction" food stop, it's not half bad! I did my research and knew I didn't want to eat at the other options here at Kennedy, and this looked like the best value for my family that contained actual ingredients and not just a greasy burger. The four of us ate for about $50. The bowls were good, if not a little small, but it was fresh and ready very quickly since you make it as you go. Can't complain! Much better than mid chicken strips and soggy fries at most places. I definitely recommend this stop. It wasn't nearly as busy as the other locations! Another bonus:)
